Education and After School Activities
As teachers and schools increasingly devote their class time to gearing children up for test taking, parents are finding creative ways to add to their child’s education. Parents are finding a variety of ways to supplement or add to all of the lessons they are learning in the classroom through experiences outside of the classroom.

From theater, music, science to athletics, parents are learning to bulk-up on their child’s after school activities in the hopes of creating a well-rounded child with a variety of interests. Do a little research and see what after school interests your child might have- you may be surprised!

Theater classes are generally taught in after school settings at local art centers and studios. Occasionally, an in-school theater program will offer opportunities after school as well. Regardless of where a child is enrolled, you can be sure that they will be positively influenced by such studies.

Aside from reaching into a child’s creative and imaginative side, theater and creative drama promotes self-confidence, communication and interpersonal skills.

Music courses are also a common after school activity. If your child shows a particular interest or curiosity in a certain instrument, talk with your in school music educator to see if they can recommend an instructor. Often there are guitar, piano and violin instructors in the community that take new students on a rolling basis. These instructors can chat with you about the importance of music for children and can help you understand the process of starting your child with music lessons.

Of course, not all children have an interest in theater or music. Some children want to explore the world of science a little more deeply. If your child shows a heightened interest in biology or physics, look for local opportunities to join science clubs. You could also speak with your child’s science instructor about science fair opportunities. Social clubs like 4-H, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts also lend opportunities for children to participate in a social science. These clubs often provide an expanded view of the world and give your child leadership opportunities they may not have encountered otherwise.

Finally, if your child is showing an interest in supplementing their physical education, consider enrolling them in organized athletics, dance, gymnastics or baton twirling. Talk with your child to see where their interests lie, and then begin researching opportunities in your community. Usually the spring and summer is a good time to enlist your child in sports such as baseball, softball or soccer. You can also look into local peewee or flag football leagues. As for dance and gymnastics, check local studios that may provide beginner classes.

Regardless of your child’s interests, supplementing their education with after school enrichment activities is always to your child’s benefit. They will have new experiences, meet new people and make new friends from different schools and communities. Enriching their education with arts or athletics will provide them with a well-rounded childhood experience and help them explore their interests and creativity.

“No man who worships education has ever got the best out of education…. Without a gentle contempt for education no man’s education is complete”.

Value education is a process by which teachers impart values to pupils. Value education can take place at home, as well as in schools, colleges, universities, and voluntary youth organizations. There are two main approaches to value education. Some see it as inculcating or conveying a set of values which often come from societal or religious rules. Others observe it as a type of Socratic dialogue where people are gradually brought to their own realization of what is the best behavior for themselves and their community.

In Urban communities children are often given value-based education. It acts as a centre of excellence to train the faculty and conduct innovative programs which is implemented by the rural and slum schools. Value education is a universal phenomenon innate to all learning and education whether it is home or at school.

Education is an effort to learn the basic facts about the world. The central idea behind value education is to develop essential values in the students and it teaches to manage complexities that can be continued and further developed. It begins at home and it is continued in schools. Value education is important to help everyone in improving the value system.

Once, we become aware of our values in life, we can scrutinize and manage the various choices we make in our lives. It is our responsibility to sustain a variety of values in life like cultural values, universal values, personal values and social values. Thus, value education is a vital ingredient required to develop a strong moral basis to a student’s life and to give them an opportunity of doing well on the world. The need for value education among the parents, children, teachers etc, is constantly increasing as we can see that violence, behavioral disorder and lack of unity in society is increasing day by day.

The Indian family has a long tradition of imparting value education right from the ancient practice of the gurukul system. Due to the modern developments and fast changing role of the parents, it has been very difficult for the parents to inculcate significant values in their child. Hence almost all the institutes offer various value education programs that meet the demand of modern society. These activities are mainly concerned about the development of the children, young adults etc. focusing on areas like happiness, humility, cooperation, honesty, simplicity, love, unity, peace etc.
Moral values give rise to the development of any society or nation.

It specifies us to what extent a society or nation has developed itself. Values are virtues, ideals and qualities on which actions and beliefs are based. Values are guiding principles that shape our world outlook, attitudes and conduct. Innate values are our inborn divine qualities like love, peace, happiness, mercy and compassion as well as the positive moral qualities such as respect, humility, tolerance, responsibility, cooperation, honesty and simplicity. So, the school which gives education should also give equal importance to values, ethics and personality development as a means of preserving the standards of education.

Kids Educational Schools In Surat

The ancient city of Suryapur better known as Surat, has gained importance not only for being India’s primary natural port but also for being the administrative and commercial capital of the Indian state of Gujarat during the Mughal Rule. A fast growing city situated on the banks of the Tapti River (Tapi), in the capital of Surat, the highlighting feature of the city is the presence of a moat that divides the ancient areas of the city marked by its congested and narrow streets from the more modern and recently built ones. Acknowledged all over the world for its diamond businesses, the city is popularly known as the ‘diamond capital of the world.’

The abundance of textile mills spread out in the city gives it its title: The textile capital of India. The GDP growth rates in Surat are one of the few areas among other States to have reached a high of 11.5%.

Appreciated for its commitment towards education, the schools in Surat are either run by the Surat Municipal Corporation or by private trusts or registered societies. There are a few private schools in Surat that though privately run, receive a financial aid from the government.

Most of the schools in Surat are either affiliated to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) or the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) while the rest of the schools are affiliated under National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). As per the 10+2+3 scheme of education the students attend primary and secondary school during the first ten years and then may complete two years of higher secondary education, followed by three years at college. The majority of the schools in Surat follow either Gujarati or English as the medium of instruction.

Almost all the schools in Surat offer commerce, arts or science as optional subjects at class X. There are a number of government schools that lack many facilities but despite that are looked upon as a boon by the poorer students who can’t afford the more expensive private schools. The English medium schools such as Ryan International School, Essar International School, J.H. Ambani Saraswati Vidyamandir, and G.D. Goenka International School are popular with the majority of parents in Surat. “Educationam” is now a popular style of academic schooling gaining popularity in Surat. A professional institute for primary and higher secondary education where the students eventually specialize in Chartered Accountancy, the institute is the pride of Surat.

Finnish education and Finlands schools

The Finnish education system starts at the age of seven for pupils and is compulsory for the next nine years until pupils reach the age of sixteen. Homeschooling in Finland is allowed but is very rare unlike other places around the world. There are very few private schools in Finland and for one to be initiated; permission has to be granted from the council of state who will make a decision based on political reasons.

Grading is carried out in primary schools in Finland but doesn’t seem to be as strict as some other countries, grading is normally carried out on a verbal rather than test basis and parents will receive a report normally twice a year.

There are free school lunches for both primary and secondary pupils and pupils can also expect to receive free health care. In some schools, pupils will also receive free teaching materials and funding for school trips.

Secondary schools are spilt normally with the intention of teaching younger children and those getting ready to leave and go on to higher education.

For Finnish pupils, Swedish is a mandatory school subject and likewise Finnish is mandatory for Swedish pupils. The value of Finland’s society is held in high regard and results of Finnish pupils and records of achievement are generally high, this in part is attributed to the high society values held in Finland.

Numerous foreign languages, environmental studies, religion, ethics, social sciences, history, maths and various sciences are just some of the languages taught in Finnish schools and the Finnish population strongly promotes English as one off the most important languages and if you visit Finland, you will encounter the majority of the population as fluent in the English language.

The principle of the Finnish education system is that everyone has access to learning in all areas and this attitude that all people are capable of learning new things at different stages of life, is a principle they abide by. The last three years of schooling as well as being subject based, also includes preparing young adults and teaching them the skills they will require to live and adapt in society.

English children can attend specialist English schools in Finland but they will be required to learn and study Finnish compulsory.

Other schools will take English students with the aim of teaching them according to Finnish education system and again, students will be required to speak and learn Finnish. Children entering the Finnish school system seem to absorb the Finnish language easily and are soon speaking it comfortably.

Creating Character Education In Schools
Character education in schools is where most children will probably develop their character. To paraphrase one educator, character education in schools is making a concentrated effort to advance beneficial qualities that are both good for the person or child and also for society in general. So if the child cannot get these qualities in the home then they will have to acquire them elsewhere.

Most schools do not have a class that specifically addresses a developing character education in schools. Of course there are books that can be assigned that suggest character development or where the story line is about a child or children who overcome all odds and due to their implicit character of perseverance or courage make it through a rough patch of life. These types of childrens books used to be quite normal but this has changed just as a childs life has changed.

It seems that a childs life used to be simple. They had to go to school during the week and to church on Sunday. But they were expected to respect their parents no matter what. They were also expected to respect their teachers and any other person in a position of authority. Television before MTV had a lot of shows that also were about family values. So a child watching television would see what is expected of them. They would be able to view other values on the television. But today there is so much violence both on the television and also on the computer in the form of computer games or games on other hand held devices that a child sees a different reality then children did decades ago. Sometimes this other reality is what the child then chooses to use as their own personal reality. Unless they have somewhere else to change this view of reality they may not ever develop true character. The type of character most parents would be proud to say that their children had developed.

This is the type of character that will affirm the human dignity. It will make the person feel they are a happy individual that will also be willing and able to serve a common good of all people. They will also understand that they want to be treated fairly and they will want to treat all others fairly also.

So where does this child learn these things? Hopefully at home but generally this will not be the case. So it is left up to teacher to teach these children about character. There are many curriculums that are available as resources online that would assist a teacher in preparing lessons. However few teachers are equipped to teach character development because they are not taught how to do so when they received their teaching credentials. They will have to reach out to other schools or educators to try to learn this new skill that is required of them. There are the resources available to them and if they want their students to succeed they will find them.

Education Options: Non Public Schools

Just as when you are looking into education for yourself, when it comes to your children you likely want the best education you can get that is within your budget. Often, you want them to have even better opportunities than you had. Sometimes, it is hard to tell what those are or where they will be found. There are so many factors to consider when learning is taking place. Different people learn better under different circumstances and choosing an institution that will help your children succeed requires a lot of decisions.

Public schools have their ups and downs. It really depends on the area you live in whether they will offer your child all of the benefits they need. When you consider all of the different learners and needs, classroom sizes can have a huge impact on whether your kid is successful as an individual going through the public system. Sometimes, you have no other option, but when you do it is worth looking into other possibilities.

Private schools can be expensive because they usually operate as a business though some are considered non-profit organizations.

You have to read contracts carefully so that you know what to expect when you send your child to any private institution. If you do your research, you can find one that provides the kinds of services needed.

Contacting your possible choices directly is important, but you can also talk to other parents who currently have children enrolled or who have had them enrolled in the past. It is not always enough to ask the direct source as you want to get unbiased information. No matter what you hear, good or bad, take it with a grain of salt. Ultimately the choice is yours.

Independent schools are similar to private schools in that they offer you an alternative to public institutions.

Independent schools function completely independently from other organizations. Private schools, on the other hand, can belong to an affiliate organization such as a church. It really depends on what you are looking for which one you might choose to go with.

There are generally two types of prep schools. One prepares younger students to enter an independent or private secondary school. The other prepares older children for entry into post-secondary schools. Typically, these are high cost but can get children on the path to success sooner than you might see in public schools. Often this option involves the student living away from home so, like all educational options, the decision must be made carefully.

Some schools will do tests to determine how your child learns best, but if this is not offered you should consider finding someone who can help you with this information. You may find that the best approach to finding a good school for your kid is to consider their individual needs. What is good for some is not good for all.

Regardless of which option you choose, it is important to remember that these schools are run in ways that do not have to adhere to the same standards as public schools. This can lead to bigger and better things as long as you choose the right school for your child. In these cases, it is not simply location and student population that is in question, but also includes what students will be learning.

Children that attend private schools often get opportunities to travel. Experiencing different cultures is an important part of developing childrens opinions. Consider a Toronto independent high school.

Retaining Music Education In Schools
Not every student is aware of the various benefits of music education. That is why you can see some children who get bored whenever it is time for them to learn about notes and rhythm. At the same time, there are also some parents who believe that music education is just a waste of time and there are more subjects that should be taught to their children.

Even though computer skills are very in demand nowadays, it is still vital that schools would still include music education as part of the childrens curriculum. With music, a child would get to have a lot of benefits more than a parent could imagine. They would have this sense of accomplishment and satisfaction each and every time they finish a song. Experts also said that children who are involved in musical activities such as playing instruments, singing, and even doing interpretative dances are more blissful compared to the kids who do not participate at all.

Aside from that, some of the benefits of music education also include the skills to solve problems, effective communication, as well as critical thinking. Learning how to be a team player can also be an essential value that the students could learn from music education as well. And you would notice that your child will become more engaged in going to school and graduate.

The power of music is not only limited within the walls of the music room. It can also extend its benefits in other academic subjects as well including reading, math, and science. The child studying music education will have more patience to deal with problems and equations compared to those who are interested in music at all.

Educational Octoberquest and the Lost Students

Is your local school district coming to you with the empty pocket pleas? Is your local school district assuring you that they have no money or that educational poverty requires that they close all the schools in the school system? Stating to you “no way can [they] hire the teachers to teach the students. No way can they continue to warm the schools or even open the cafeteria with the federally subsidized lunches.”

If you are faced with the scenario identified so, do this, look into the Educational Octoberquest. This is when the schools are busy reaching out to the community looking for students. This is the student count time. This is when school districts get the money that pays everyone. Incentives are offered to get those student bodies into seats to fund the district.

Now if these school districts are asking you for this money. ask them how many secondary students are lost from the high schools each month after Octoberquest student body hunt.

Each student lost was worth money to the school district in October, but lose value after the money quest is fulfilled.

Aren’t the school district responsible for educating the students for whom they are funded? What is the ultimate loss in money and human capital when as many as 1500 to 2000 students will leave a mid sized school district in the first semester?

And this number will increase incrementally by the end of the first semester. Don’t fall victim to the we are poor scenario while not holding school districts accountable for the loss of the student body after the count. Ultimately the loss of the student body after the count is worth millions of dollars both short term and long term.
